Protect / unlock PDF

Set an opening password, change an existing password, or make an unencrypted copy using a password you know. The original file stays unchanged.

Up to 25 MB and 60 pages. Signed or certified PDFs are refused because rewriting would invalidate signatures.

Use at least 8 characters; a long unique passphrase is better. Maximum 127 UTF-8 bytes. Spaces are preserved. Keep your password somewhere safe: this tool cannot recover forgotten passwords.

Creates AES-256 encryption (PDF revision 6). Anyone with the opening password can copy, print or decrypt the document; this does not add copy/print restrictions.
